Planting more trees
The problem
In the face of environmental degradation and continued reduction in forests, there is an urgent need to restore our plant cover while protecting the existing ones all over the planet. It is in this end that we are working towards ensuring a marked increase in number of trees and protection from degradation.
Who is we
We are Vision Farmers’ Organization, a registered grassroots community-based organization working in western Kenya. Since our inception in 2010, there has been an impressive achievement in environmental restoration and tree planting.
Our aim
We intend to plant one million different species of trees in six months.
Our plan of action
We are teaming up with World Climate School , from the program called ‘’Climate Change, The Fight of our Lives– from Emergency to Solutions ” to work with schools in Western Kenya to teach children on tree planting and maintenance. As we teach these children, this will be replicated in their homes thus bringing the whole community on board.
These lessons will include soil conservation, tree nursery establishment and maintenance, tree seedlings management and taking care of trees. This is to be replicated in more schools thus the communities.
This information imparted in children will be lifetime as they will grow up taking care of their planet.
We intend to plant the following tree species
Woody trees
- Grevillea robusta
- Sesbania sesban
Medicinal trees
- Moringa (Moringa oleifera)
- Red Stinkwood (Prunes africana)
- Kassod Tree (Senna siamea)
Food/fruit trees
- Banana
- Mango
- Avocado
- Pawpaw
Our appeal
To achieve this, we need more like-minded individuals, organizations, corporations and institutions to walk with us through this life changing journey.
